My library card expired, how do I renew?

My card isn't working. I can't log in. I'm blocked from accessing my account.

Answer

General information about renewing can be found here
https://www.nypl.org/help/library-card/terms-conditions#renew

To renew your library card, you're required to show Library staff your library card, proof of identity and proof of your current home address ( https://www.nypl.org/help/library-card/terms-conditions#Eligibility ).

If you live within the five boroughs of the City of New York, the fastest way to renew is to visit any NYPL location ( https://www.nypl.org/locations ) to show proof. Once our staff have seen valid proof, they will renew your account immediately.

Cardholders from areas of NY State outside of New York City's 5 boroughs may e-mail patronaccounts@nypl.org . Please submit a scan or pictures of (2) two pieces of mail, delivered within the last (2) two months to your New York State address. Include your name, and your Library card number (to be renewed).  In the Subject Line type “Card Renewal”. The typical turnaround time for online renewals is 1-2 weeks.
