How can I get an NYPL library card?
I'd like a library account from the New York Public Library.
Answer
General information about NYPL library cards can be found here:
https://www.nypl.org/help/library-card
We now offer an online card application - using this you can apply for a card:

Keep in mind that if you do not have a home address in New York State you will only get a temporary library card (which can be used to request materials at our physical locations). You can extend that access by showing library staff proof of home address (wherever home may be), and proof that you attend school, own property, or work (and pay taxes) here in New York State.
Also, regardless of where you reside a card can be issued to anyone who visits our library with proof of identity and proof of current home address. This can be done at any of our locations:
